The Mwasa washing station is situated in the Nyamasheke district in Rwanda’s Western Province, near to the small town of Gatare.
At just over 1600 masl, the washing station covers an area of just one hectare and takes its name from the village in which it operates. The washing station processes nearly 180,000 kgs of cherries, annually.
Around 300 farmers contribute cherry to Mwasa, delivering their crop to 5 collection points in the area. They use organic fertiliser which usually consists of discarded cherry pulp and manure which they place at the base of their coffee trees.
