When a Tunbridge Wells based accountant’s love of coffee became all consuming, he decided to stop counting beans and roast them instead. In June 2014, Darren Tickner gave up his job in the finance sector to found Bean Smitten, an artisan coffee roastery dedicated to making speciality coffee more accessible.
“Put simply, I want to get more people drinking better tasting coffee, both in speciality coffee shops and at home.” says Darren. “We roast the best coffee beans we can source. They are always fully traceable and fairly traded.” However, it’s not just about selling coffee. We want to engage with our customers and help them get the best from the coffee they buy.”
As well as selling through its online store, Bean Smitten already supplies freshly roasted coffee to a number of local businesses across Kent and East Sussex.
Bean Smitten has started a magazine section on its website. There are already, articles about the coffee roasting process. In future articles Darren plans to discuss brewing techniques and using coffee as an ingredient in cooking.
In a recent development, Bean Smitten has been appointed as a distributor for Sanremo espresso machines. Sanremo have supplied competition machines to the UK Barista Championships for the last five years. “I am thrilled that Bean Smitten is now a Sanremo partner,” says Darren, “it adds an exciting new dimension to our business.” So, whether you are a coffee shop owner, a coffee enthusiast or simply someone who enjoys a really good cup of coffee, Bean Smitten would love to hear from you.
