#5ThingsWeDidThisWeek No.#7 Our Weekly Update

April 10, 2016

London Coffee Festival week, an ambitious independent coffee shop set to take Ashford (Kent) by storm and a trip to the seaside. It's all in this weeks update.

1.) Today (Sunday, 10th April) is the last day of the London Coffee Festival. This is one of Europe's foremost coffee events, a celebration of speciality coffee featuring over 250 artisan coffee and gourmet food stalls. If you've not been before, checkout their website and put the date in your diary for next year.

2.) Following on from the London Coffee Festival we have UK Coffee Week. Coffee businesses up and down the country will be holding special events such as tastings, competitions, both as a celebration of the UK coffee scene and also to raise funds for Project Waterfall, a charitable foundation dedicated to ensuring a supply of clean drinking water to the world's coffee growing communities. UK Coffee Week runs from 11th - 17th April 2016 and Bean Smitten will be donating 10% of all on-line sales during this period to Project Waterfall.

Project Waterfall - We'll be donating 10% from every on-line sale 11-17 April 2016

3.) This week saw the start of the New Tax Year in the UK. Why is this relevant? Well it reminded me how I gave up my career in accountancy to become a coffee roaster. I used to count beans, now I roast them. If you've not read the story, then it's available here.

4.) Stag Coffee is an independent coffee shop opening this Thursday, 14th April 2016 in Ashford (Kent). Run by Freddie Hewett and  Serena Stoppato this ambitious start-up plans to take on the chains in Ashford town centre by sharing their passion for speciality coffee, great food and excellent customer service. These ex-Costa Coffee employees have taken over the former Phones 4U site in Ashford High Street and fitted it out to the highest standard. Bean Smitten are delighted to have been asked to supply a 3 Group Sanremo Verona RS espresso machine and roast the coffee. Stag Coffee will be serving our Classic Blend in their espresso drinks, with a single origin decaf option, currently from Santa Lucia in Brazil.

5.) Businesses love to source locally. Based on the Kent/Sussex border, we're in an excellent position to serve clients across Kent, Sussex and Surrey. This week, we travelled about as far east as is possible to meet potential customers in the lovely seaside town on Broadstairs. It's great to know that word is spreading about our fantastic coffee beans. Existing customers who make a successful introduction will receive a £20 voucher to spend in our on-line store. Happy Days!
