Guatemala Pena Roja Single Origin Coffee Beans
The village of Pena Roja, or 'Red rock' lies at the foothillls of Pena Blanca, in Western Guatemala near to the mexican border. Agricola Integral Peña Roja are a smaller cooperative that works within a union of cooperatives known as the Fedecocagua, to help market and sell their coffee abroad. In return the farmers receive investment, support and access to services such as agronomists, and share of the expertise that larger groups have access to. The cooperative also provides a free nursery to children under 8 in the community.
This coffee is grown by a variety of 81 smallholders in the local region. It is hand picked and washed, before drying out in the sun on patios. The patios are infact quite often the roofs of the small houses that are perched on the hillsides.
The beans are then transported to La Libertad for further processing, to prepare for exportation. This lot is comprised of a few different varieties which offer crop diversit
