The Atunkaa Natural Sugarcane Decaf showcases Siruma's commitment to transparency and fair prices for farmers. It is sourced from the Central Cauca Association for Peace (ACC) in Piendam�, Cauca. ACC was created by a local farmer who wanted to add value to Castillo coffee and provide stable income so neighbors would avoid illicit crops.
The coffee is decaffeinated by Descafecol using a sustainable sugarcane-based process. By working directly with the mill and decaffeinator, Siruma ensures fair pricing and complete traceability back to the contributing farmers.
Origin
Colombia is the third largest coffee producing nation and overall, the largest producer of washed Arabica. The coffee producing regions are the foothills of the Andes and the Sierra Nevada, where suitable climate conditions prevail.
Colombia has three key mountain ranges that run towards the Andes and this is where majority of its coffee is grown. Hilly terrain provides a wide variety of micro-climates, meaning that harvesting can take place year-round.
Colombia began in exporting just a few thoushand bags of coffee in 1835. Today, Colombian exports currently stand at around 9 million bags of coffee per year.
Some of the country’s best coffees come from the south west of the country, in the areas of Huila, Tolima, Nariño and Cauca.
